PROGRAMS AND SERVICES

After-School Program

The After-School Program is available to children ages 6 to 12.  Children arrive at the Community Center right after school and stay until 6pm to allow parents time to pick them up after work.  Transportation is available and snacks are provided.  Children are able to participate in a variety of activities such as; homework assistance, recreational activities, library access and arts and crafts at an affordable rate.

Youth Sports

The Salvation Army Irving offers YMCA leagues in basketball, soccer and volleyball.  These activities offer children a safe place to learn about sports and improve in their athletic abilities.

School of Performing Arts

The School of Performing Arts program offered at The Salvation Army Irving gives children in the community an opportunity to participate in high quality music training at a low cost.  Students receive lessons in piano, guitar and music theory from instructors who are professionally trained in music and receive a top notch education in their given instruments.

The Gene and Jerry Jones Family Center for Children

The Salvation Army and Child Care Group maintain an ongoing partnership to operate The Gene and Jerry Jones Family Center for Children at The Salvation Army Irving.  The program is based on “relationship-centered” child care.  Through this unique approach each classroom functions as a family unit.  Children of different ages are placed in the same classroom, with siblings staying together just as they would at home.  A social worker assesses needs and helps establish and monitor goals for both the parents and children.

The center offers a Preschool Program for ages 3 to 5 as well as an Early Head Start Program for ages 6 weeks to 3 years.  As many as 50 children can be enrolled at the center at any given time.  Cost is based on a sliding scale, depending on each family’s income.  Parents are required to fulfill volunteer hours at the center, further strengthening the family unit.

Summer Day Camp

Summer day camp is a full-day program offered from mid June to mid August. Children are able to participate in a variety of activities, including: arts and crafts, sports, music and educational activities.  They also have the opportunity to go on exciting field trips through out the summer such as; ice skating, bowling, touring Texas Stadium, swimming and trips to the movies. The cost is significantly less expensive than typical daily child care.  Children as young as five may attend.

Emergency Assistance

The Salvation Army Irving provides financial assistance to those in financial crisis and will help pay rent, mortgage and utility bills.  A well stocked food pantry is located at the facility so that no one has to leave hungry.  If a need arises, our social service workers have developed a network of relationships with other area agencies to make accurate referrals in an effort to meet needs that are outside of our service capabilities.

Angel Tree

Many children won't even have a Christmas tree, much less any presents to open.  That's where The Salvation Army Irving comes in. Through a program called "Angel Tree," gifts are provided to needy children and elderly citizens who would otherwise be left out on Christmas.

The Salvation Army/NBC 5 Angel Tree program provides an opportunity for the personal touch, as shoppers can select an Angel Tag at an area mall or their place of work. Each Angel Tag provides the name, age, gender, clothing sizes and special Christmas needs and wishes of a needy child, senior or disabled adult.
